It is a set of benchmarking criteria supporting the mainstreaming of environmental principles across compliance standards, strengthening the FSI basket as international reference for sustainable practices.
Aftersustainable production under FSI will be defined according to the combined benchmarks on Agricultural, Social and Environmental practice. Currently, the FSI Basket of Standards includes a set of 14 benchmarked social and agricultural sustainability compliance standards.

This is the first time in the 60 year history of Union Fleurs that the Presidency is held by a non — European domiciled trade association. Union Fleurs, founded in is an international umbrella organization for national associations active in the floricultural trade. There is also need for Capacity building mainly done through offering training services to players along the value chain. Technology is the hallmark in attaining better logistics for instance through the traceability system ensuring that products can be traced right from the point of origin to the point of consumption. Currently, use of data loggers ensures that a good track of events is kept whereas use of electronic programmes greatly reduces paper work.
Communication systems should be digitized so that the access to information is made easier for each of the players along the value chain. For the second year running, Kenya Flower Council will be the official partner at this event.
The two conferences are aimed to open dialogue and facilitate sharing of ideas, knowledge and practical solutions to improve logistics and supply chain performance of key perishable commodities exported from African countries. The two-day event, covering both flower and other cargo commodities like fruits, vegetable and meat, seeks to develop modern and cost efficient logistics and supply chain infrastructure within the African continent. HERproject is an initiative to enhance worker health, empowerment and productivity in order to support the continuous improvement of the sector. The workshop will focus on the social projects implemented by different agencies and the impacts of their projects on the flower industry. The discussions will also explore other possible sources of funding for the flower industry and way forward.
Pioneered by two lead organizations in the industry the Kenya Flower Council KFC and the Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya FPEAKthe new institution is mandated to enhance industry growth and development by providing high level lobbying and advocacy services for the industry with the aim of facilitating and sustaining access to existing and emerging markets.

Panalpina will acquire the family-owned Kenyan company Air Connection, subject to conditions. The merged company will handle around 70, tons of perishables air freight per year.
